of the ether

Of the Ether is a multimedia dance performance exploring philosophical ideas of the “ether” in collaboration with Urbanity Dance. The performance features Urbanity Dance’s professional company, with an original sound score and lighting created by MASARY Studios.

Taking the “ether” to refer to a dimension just beyond reach – the “other” that is parallel to our daily lives, that which is beyond our existence and experience – this five-part, evening length work pairs seven dancers with six on-stage lighting fixtures, bringing bodies and light into extremely close proximity, offering sharply contrasting moments of light and shadow. As the lighting fixtures move throughout the piece, the audience experiences a reconfiguring of the stage. The accompanying sound score, based heavily in the realms of electronic music and analog synthesis, creates and supports this otherworldly setting.
