"Untitled”
The sculpture resonates with the aesthetics of the finish fetish movement, while the stacked composition creates a trilithon, referencing megalithic architecture. The work is an attempt to create a seamless visual pairing between digital and physical effects, while also dealing with themes of orientation and grounded direction. The artwork consists of three crystal clear acrylic blocks, stacked into the form of a trilithon. The blocks have been coated to receive projected light which displays a constant visual effect animating the sculpture.

Caleb Hawkins constantly switches mediums of production alternating between digital and physical means of working. The back and forth between these methods of production usually manifests in the aesthetics of his final works, blending opposites together. This piece "untitled" is a recent exploration in the relationship between physical material properties and visual effects. These themes remain in line with a body of work that interrogates the interface between physical and virtual experience.

“Missed Moments”
“Missed Moment(s) is a 12-foot tall Monolithic structure that uses abstracted forms to embody the pressures and weight one can feel when grieving. Ultimately the piece embodies the celebration of life after death and how that can churn up emotions not previously realized. Grief can take many forms, loss of a job, loss of time but, more often the term is used and associated with death. When I lost my Dad I quickly came to the realization that the grief I was experiencing was getting in the way of living the way I wanted to. Through practicing mindfulness, I began to understand why I was unable to be present in moments of happiness; the grief was so outwardly tragic rather than cathartic. With years of memories and stories, one is truly able to continue living despite the hardship of it all. Enjoying and accepting the memories of someone that has passed away in the moments you wished they were there to grant one the solace needed to find closure in loss.”

“Transistors in Translation II”
Live arrangement of tape recordings, closed captions, and vocals. We are collectively experiencing disembodiment as we grow increasingly cellular and disconnected from the earth and outmoded technologies. Everything we engage with on a screen is an approximation for another machine or flow. So, I turn toward the terrestrial as a means for reconnecting and grounding our bodies in time and space. The sounds are a combination of analog synth tones, radio frequencies, music boxes, field recordings, and layered vocals.

“My work is about perception of place as shaped by the built environment and sound. Intersecting Queer, Deaf, Southern, and Hispanic culture I focus upon cultivating ecosystems of inclusion to make way for public imagination. // I blend sophisticated responsive technology with lo-fi mechanisms like cassette tapes, stop-motion animations, radio frequencies, Xerox prints, and electronic synthesizers. These tactile materials illuminate the terrestrial and electromagnetic phenomena which our bodies sense but cannot readily name. // Through multi-sensory installation I explore expanding time, breaking and remaking meaning, and cultivating ecstatic magic. At the core of my practice is the idea that imagination is foundational to building the world of our dreams and that we need as many people as possible accessing their imaginations to create inclusive communities.”
