ARI WEINKLE

London Symphony Orchestra 2022 Season Campaign
3D animation and design for print, web, outdoor, social, etc.
Software used: Cinema4D, X-Particles, Houdini, and After Effects
2022

Superunion approached me to create key artwork for the London Symphony Orchestra's 2022 season. The brief was deceivingly simple – create a Jackson Pollock in 3D. Much like Pollock, master conductor Sir Simon Rattle's expression comes through his movements. What would it look like if his batton was endlessly emitting paint?

We worked to translate video footage of Sir Simon conducting Béla Bartók's "The Miraculous Mandarin" into an evolving 3D painting. Our aim was to express the energy and dynamism of the conductor. It was a tough, but rewarding, ask requiring weeks of experimentation, critique, and refinement.

In my work, I look to break apart and re-appropriate different forms such as the human figure, geometric and organic shapes, and typography. Through the process of fragmenting different entities, I am continually searching for new and unique juxtapositions between shapes, colors, and patterns. My work is mostly experimental, often digital, and usually weird.

My inspiration comes from a wide range of sources; I have been particularly affected by Japanese aesthetics, abstract painting, surrealism, and philosophy. I attempt to draw on both visual and non-visual sources throughout my work.

BEN K. FOLEY ( He / Him )

“Alchemist v.20” ( WIP )
Clear/ mirrored glass, aluminum, cardboard, plywood, DIY electronic hardware, custom lensing
2023

I create real-life 3D optical illusions designed to consume my viewer's visual perception, and acting upon curiosity is the key to my process and practice. What I offer to those who engage with my work are new visual tools, previously unknown to them but part of their very nature. I wield found, recycled, and repurposed industrial materials, along with electronics, to focus my primary medium: light. I describe the patterns in my personal experiences of discovery and pseudo-scientific exploration by creating interactive and kinetic installations and sculptures.

My practice involves hypothesis, experimentation, natural observation, and an alchemical twist to the scientific method to find the very line that spans the definitions of what we see as art, what we understand through science, and what we find mysterious through mysticism. Memory, mindfulness, exploring the unconscious through dreams, mythology, and aspects of Zen define my interests, where I seek to find commonalities between the microcosmic and the macrocosmic. I bring forth work that seeks to highlight ethereal and fleeting moments of physical reaction that we seldom see – yet surround us every day.

ISNARD DUPOUX ( He / Him / His / Omega )

“Memory Reconsolidation (Something Something Something Hypercube)”

Memory Re-consolidation (Something Something Something Hypercube) is a meditation on the fluidity of time, a reminder that the past and future are but figments of our imagination, constantly shifting and changing with each passing moment. The poem, mimicking the style of the iconic Haiku, is a testament to the power of the human mind, and a glimpse into the labyrinthine intricacies of our perceptions and associations. Inspired by the notion that the perceived reality is but a holographic representation of the true reality, chaos, Isnard Dupoux has dared to explore the depths of his own consciousness. Instead of banishing the apparitions of his past, he chose to walk beside them and emerge, transformed.

Isnard Dupoux is a multidisciplinary artist from Boston, Massachusetts. His diverse background in visual art, performance art, and sound art has allowed him to craft a unique voice that blends the sensual and the introspective. In his recent work, he has turned to written form, using the structure of haiku to explore the complexities of human phenomena. Through a magical-realist lens, his writing serves as an exploration of the self, reflecting on his own former struggles with insomnia and his journey to cultivate solace. Isnard Dupoux's work invites the reader to interrogate their own perceptions of reality so that they may find wonder in the everyday.

JAMIESON EDSON ( They / THEM )

“Bouquet”
36 x 36" thermal print derived from a scanned hand painted neagtive using acrylic ink on mylar

What starts as a straight photograph becomes abstracted—obscuring the physical body, as well as removing it (partially or entirely) from its context. Moments in time, not just a snapshot, become congealed and layered upon each other—revealing themselves as devotional images that honor friends, lovers, and events.

MARIA SERVELLÓN ( SHE / HER )

“Hibiskiss Series (#1-5)”
Looping projection art, surround sound, smell (hibiscus), and sculpture (acrylic, cloth, and astroturf)
2022

The Hibiskiss series is a vivid, rich depiction of love and tropical elegance in glitch bliss. A search for harmony forever in between the forbidden and the embraced, Hibiskiss digitally “queers” intimacy into an abstract but opulent flux.

I am a visual explorer and storyteller who uses film, digital media, design, music, and dance to express truths and possibilities. I utilize experimental and narrative approaches to create complex characters, movements, and concepts. With this, I attempt to satisfy my curiosity about the world and understand my relationship with it. My artwork is a conscious and intuitive exploration of an intersectional identity utilizing magic realism. In using abstract and archival visuals, I pay a color-rich homage to the fluidity of culture, gender, history, memories, and dreams. My art-making odyssey aims to continue transcending pre-established norms and to exist in and out of the digital sphere. These realizations solidify the bridge of mutual connection between myself and the audience.
