VOL. 03   //  SHARING OUR STORY  //  MARCH 2021

Happy March! Spring Awakenings ~

Now one year into the shutdown, we've been trying to focus on some incredible changes at large and in the studio. Samo finally got his knee fixed, Ryan has a puppy, Jeremy is now an official Doctor,  Julia rapidly strengthening the studio, and Caleb has pronounced himself as an incredible design associate.

We are embracing everyone and with the world as we all navigate, adapt, problem solve, love, and live. We're thankful to keep going!

Through this past year we do want to express our thanks for the resilience, kindness, and courage we have absorbed by those close and distanced to MASARY. Our lives and artwork come to life with all of you, thank YOU!

This year we are full of glowing ambition to push our artistic practice and offer more artworks, community engagement, and discourse that resonate and positively challenge. In Light Reading Vol. 3 we're sharing some of our expressions that have been and will be.

Let us know what you think or what you want to see

BOSTON ARTS ACADEMY Permanent Public Art

We’ve been selected to create a permanent public art piece at the new Boston Arts Academy in Fenway, Boston. We’re deep in the design phase, working with the BAA staff, students, architects, and Boston Art Commission to realize this permanent piece.

The considerations are profound in approaching this work, realizing the memories that will surround it through public, student, and staff experiences at Boston’s only public performing and visuals arts high school. We are inspired, thrilled,  and can’t wait to share the process working up to the debut.

Massively Distributed(MD)

This past Fall, we drove across the country to install an interactive site-specific art project in Scottsdale, Arizona at Canal Convergence. We collected over 400 submissions from the public to create this 3-part Audio + Visual Instrument comprised of "meta-compositions."

The work stems from years of our artistic practice,
rooted concepts in musique concrète (coined by Pierre Schaeffer), and contemporary interfaces. By sampling video and sound, one is able to compose with the textures and nuances of The Place.

(They're still taking submissions for next year. We'll be there again with something new and spicy. Hope to see you! Stay tuned!)

👁 IN CASE YOU MISSED IT 👁

We released our first ever Mini Documentary  on our public piece VESSELS set in New Bedford, MA last summer.

A 10 minute video about an art piece by Masary, commissioned by DATMA. The video celebrates New Bedford's fishing community with a 3 part installation in their downtown area. Images and videos are abstracted and projection-mapped onto buildings. Scenes of boats, fishermen, a mermaid are collaged and hued in purples and blues.
This 10 minute video explores how an incredible community inspired a group of artists and their commissioning body to create VESSELS and celebrate New Bedford's Fishing heritage.  We've never made a video like this, so please let us know what you think!

Mount Auburn Solstice

A flashback to the reimagined candling lighting service with our friends at Mount Auburn Cemetery. It was a honor to uplift their traditions and bring new expressions to their biggest event of the year.

Through projection mapping, custom LED fixtures, architectural lighting, and a production suite; Bieglow Chapel was transformed to host remembrance and light on the darkest day of the year.

Winter Lights

A public projection mapped installation to add a Winter Glow. The installation was active for one month in Jamaica Plain at the First Baptist Church on Center St.

The piece was composition ranged from community drawings projected 60ft tall to the architecture blooming into life itself.

Presented by JP Center South Main Streets.

Have you heard of?

We are digging into so many new artists & thinkers, but one of the more important artists has been French composer Pierre Schaeffer known for his role as the "chief developer of a unique and early form of avant-garde music known as musique concrète." A father of electronic and experimental music, if you will.

Latest (art)work

We are deep in the design phase for one of our most ambitious works to date: The public art installation at the Boston Arts Academy.
