VOL. 04  //  APRIL 2021

Hello !

The seasons are changing, businesses are coming back to life, new nests are being built, and Light Reading Vol. 4 is here.

We are excited to share some news about our studio within this cusp of Spring and going into the second quarter of the year.

We are continuing to explore concepts infused with philosophy of time / memory as it relates to artwork and experiences of space.

Here's to more shared memories this year as we land back into each-others lives with more light and more art.

The philosophy + first look behind Memory / Diffusion

While we're still testing and developing Memory / Diffusion (that we mentioned in our last Light Reading) we wanted to take a deeper dip into the why and how of our concept.

At our early concept meetings, Dr.J kept talking about a certain (Henri) Bergson. He tried to explain Bergson's philosophy on episodic memory and soon we were convinced (inspired) to explore further.

In a nutshell, Bergson’s point (regarding memory) is that images, samples, snapshots, representations of reality are not the same as reality itself. Instead, for Bergson, reality and existence is la dur ́ee (the duration), a process of indivisible continuity of becoming.

In turn, the "memory" developed by Memory / Diffusion will be its own, unique memory. Whoever or whatever walks past will build, grow, and become additive to the collection of memories experienced in the space and by the artwork. Students at the school are in a constant state of becoming and evolution–constantly reconfiguring itself and changing.

How this memory will manifest itself? That's what we're still developing through concept, hardware, visual language, sculptural form, and time.

ASIAN RESOURCES
We fully condemn the Asian hate crimes that have been more pronounced as of late. In the link you can find a regularly updated list of education resources and ways to help.

Harvard NVC

We love it when entrepreneurs turn to artists to propel and design their ideas.

We supported our friends at Harvard Business School by re-imagining their annual New Venture Competition that funds brilliant ideas and products to help change the world for the good.

By using a bespoke video stream system, stage design, projection, animation, sound works, and animations, we were able to create a real-time environment supporting that helped create proud memories and support brilliant ideas.

MD at Holy Cross

Massively Distributed(MD) 2.0!

We are working with the College of the Holy Cross on a campus engagement of our work MD.

The piece is site-specific by using samples of the area in which the artwork is being presented. Samples are loaded onto the web app instrument and will be featured in facade projections created by the college community.

Students have recorded sound an visual samples which will be featured in user meta-compositions which will then be publicly presented at the end of April.

Artists For Humanity

One of our studio neighbors in the Fort Point area of Boston. We met last year through a workshop we did teaching teen artists and designers around projection mapping and public art.

AFH works with teens to complete real client-based projects, allowing the artwork to thrive and while also paving professional paths for teens to realize, be inspired by, and seek out.

We continued to work on projects together. Including a Boston Public Library projection for Black History Month.
