big news

MASARY has been invited to co-create a new large-scale installation on the iconic John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge at BLINK Cincinnati in collaboration with Brave Berlin, Vincent Lighting, and the Cincinnati Regional Chamber. As authors of the sound score, light score, and technical language, we are thrilled to be creating something very special for this event - one the largest projection and light festivals in North America. The project takes a special meaning as MASARY principal Maria Finkelmeier is a Cincinnati native!

RUMBLE: a contemporary voice for the bridge that sings

Bridges are a consistent marvel of architecture. A bridge represents what is no longer the edge, where travel and ideas formerly stopped, but now have a path.  A visualization of this progress, Cincinnati’s Roebling Bridge sings as it suspends over the Ohio River connecting two banks, two cities, and two states.

Created by sampling elements from the bridge itself, the sound score will turn the “singing bridge” into an instrument capable of beats, harmony, and melody. In addition to using live sampled sound bites, the music will include recordings from the Cincinnati Boychoir, and other contemporary elements.

The biennial BLINK festival takes place in Cincinnati, Ohio from Thursday, October 10 through Sunday, October 13, 2019. Bridge rendering by project visionaries, Brave Berlin.

an orchestrated evening

We were thrilled to work with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra last month to support their season finale "Dance Night" with original projections on Boston's iconic Hatch Memorial Shell. The work featured projection mapped video and visual animation. MASARY members Sam Okerstrom-Lang and Ryan Edwards, along with Jeremy Stewart, traveled to Camp Harbor View to capture video content of the campers dancing, bringing the vibrancy of the camp's setting into into the projected animation.

Led by our mapper, Samo, the Hatch reverberated along with the orchestra's beautiful sounds, dancing to a world premiere by Jake Gunnar Walsh & Devin Ferreira with the Camp Harbor View campers both on stage and integrated into the projections. Additional 3D animations were created by Samo and Philip Gedarovich to specifically work with the Hatch Shell’s architecture, adding a magical sense to the music and dance. The last piece of the night was a performance of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in which MASARY member Maria Finkelmeier acted as creative director, assisting Samo to conduct the evening’s crescendo.
